General Rules for Open Livestock Shows

  • Open livestock entries will be accepted until noon on Saturday, July 9, for normal entry fee. Entries will also be accepted at time of check in for double the normal entry fee.
  • All exhibitors must purchase a season, student, daily admission, or Madison County Junior Fair pass.
  • All out of state livestock must have health papers.
  • Any animals showing signs of sickness or disease will require vet certification before showing.
  • Exhibitors must refrain from the use of any injected medication on animals at the fair, unless deemed appropriate by the fair vet in compliance with any necessary restrictions or withdrawal periods.
  • Exhibitor entry tags must be picked up in the fair office prior to weighing of animals.
  • All bedding is to be provided by the exhibitor. (No newspaper.)
  • Any exhibitor using extension cords on the fairgrounds must use only properly grounded cords with three-pronged plugs. Inappropriate extension cords or adapters are not allowed for use.
  • When all entries are received, classes will be divided in an effort to equalize the number of exhibitors in each class.
  • Classes with less than four head may be subject to prorated premiums.
  • Entry fees for all breeding and market classes, excluding beef cattle, are $10 per head
  • Payouts – $15, $12, $8
  • Entry fee for all beef steers, heifers and feeders is $20/hd
  • Payouts – $30, $25, $20
  • Showmanship Order: Adult, Senior, Intermediate, Junior, Beginner, Pewee
  • Showmanship entries for all species is $5

RULES GOVERNING SHOW

    1. All Exhibitors entering will be charged an entry fee of $10/single and $15/pair
    2. Competition open to the world.
    3. Sheep must be conditioned and trained to show at halter.
    4. No decoration on sheep or halter except sheep in decorative classes.
    5. Exhibitor may participate in two classes if a different outfit is 
worn.
    6. The entrants will be judged with respect to garment selected, 
poise, and appearance, control and presentation of the animal, 
and garment construction and originality.
    7. Garments must be made from fabric consisting of at least 50% 
American Wool.
    8. All sheep MUST be properly tagged with a USDA Scrapies approved tag prior to unloading on check-in day. 


    9. Classes will be divided by age of Exhibitor as of Jan. 1, 2016.

LAMB & WOOL PRINCESS CONTEST

Winner Crowned during Guys & Gals Lead Show

DETAILS:

    1. Entrants must write an essay on “Why I would like to be the Lamb 
and Wool Princess.”
    2. ENTRIES ARE DUE by noon on JULY 10, 2016. Entries may be taken in person to the Fair Secretary’s Office or mailed to: Kyle Seaburn, P.O. Box 30, London, Ohio 43140. 
*NOTE: Late entries will be not accepted.
    3. Qualifications:
      • The Princess must be a Madison County Junior Fair Exhibitor between the ages of 11 and 14 years of age, as of Jan. 1, 2016.
      • Must exhibit in the Guys & Gals Lead Contest.
    4. The Princess will receive a crown and sash. They will promote the lamb and wool industry during the year.

 

OPEN CLASS SWINE SHOWS

General Rules Applying to Both Contests:

    1. All animals must be ear notched or ear tagged for identification.
    2. All swine must have been farrowed after 12-1-15.
    3. All out-of-state swine must show proof of negative Pseudorabies test within 45 days of show.
    4. Show committee will disqualify barrows showing evidence of late castration.
    5. No oil or oil-based grooming products will be allowed on animals.
    6. Scales will be open after scanning completed and will close at Noon.
    7. Entry tags must be picked up by noon in the Senior Fair Office.

    9. Purebred animals may show in breed classes, pending 10 or more entries of the same breed. Registration papers and matching ear notches are mandatory at time of check-in.

Rules Governing Show:

    1. All sheep must be properly tagged with a USDA Scrapies approved tag prior to unloading on check-in day.
    2. Sheep must arrive the morning of Sunday, July 10, 2016.
    3. Lambs, to be eligible, must be born on or after January 1, 2016.
    4. All animals in breeding classes must be registered in their proper breed association, and the animal must be identified and the papers available. Any attempt to avoid this shall cause exhibitor to forfeit any premiums.
    5. All entries from flocks known to have been affected with or exposed to any contagious or infectious disease within the past year shall be accompanied by a certificate signed by a regularly employed state or federal veterinarian.
    6. The show committee further reserves the right to take any additional measures that may be deemed necessary to protect the health of sheep shown at the fair.
    7. Open Class Sheep are released following the show on Sunday, July 10, 2016.

    5. Horns are allowed on market goats.
    6. Market goats must have all milk teeth intact.
    7. Weigh-in will be 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

RULES GOVERNING SHOW:

    1. Check-in will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Sunday, July 10, 2016.
    2. Registration papers will be required for purebred cattle.
    3. Breed classes will be formed for heifer classes ONLY 
if there are three or more of the same breed. If there are not enough purebred cattle to form a breed class, purebred cattle will show in crossbred class, or in an All Other Breed class, if there are three or more various purebred cattle that lack the numbers to form their own breed show.
    4. Heifers must be born after Sept. 1, 2014.
    5. All cattle will be shown by weight, unless a breed class is 
formed.
    6. Class order: Showmanship, County Born and Raised, Feeders, Heifers and Steers.
    7. Feeders must be born after Jan.1, 2016.

MADISON COUNTY BORN AND RAISED BEEF SHOW

SUNDAY, JULY 10, 2016 – Immediately following Open Beef Showmanship Show in Eby Arena

Director in charge: Keeran

For the 11th year, the Madison County Born and Raised Class has been added to the Open Beef Show. The object is to recognize county youth for producing quality market and breeding projects. There is no charge for these classes, however participants need to declare their participation at time of check-in. This will follow Showmanship during the Open Class Beef Show on Sunday, July 10, 2016, beginning at 4 p.m. An overall Champion Born and Raised Market Beef Animal, Champion Born and Raised Heifer and Champion Born and Raised Feeder Calf will be selected. Various awards will be given to participants.

Rules Governing Show:

    1. All animals must be current 4-H or FFA projects entered at this year’s fair and must have been born and raised in Madison County.
    2. Classes will be determined by show management.

OVER THE HILL – BEEF SHOWMANSHIP FUN SHOW

    1. $20 entry fee.
    2. All proceeds benefit Madison County Junior Fair.
